By Rohit Kumar Singh: After former Bihar MP Anand Mohan was released from jail last month, there are growing demands to set free two more upper-caste politicians — former MP Prabhunath Singh and former MLA Anant Singh.
Prabhunath Singh, who is a four-time MP from Maharajganj, is presently serving a life sentence in Hazaribagh jail in Jharkhand in connection with the murder of then Janata Dal MLA Ashok Singh in Patna on July 3, 1995.
A Hazaribagh court awarded the life sentence to Prabhunath Singh in the case in May 2017.
On the other hand, Anant Singh is currently serving a 10-year jail sentence in an Arms Act case after an AK 47 was recovered from his residence in August 2019. He is lodged in Beur jail in Patna at present. Anant Singh has served as an MLA from the JD(U) and RJD earlier. He was disqualified as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly after he was convicted in this case last year.
Leading the campaign for the release of the two jailed politicians, Krishna Kumar Kallu, who heads the Swarna Kranti Dal, said that he will go to any extent to ensure that both politicians are released from jail like Anand Mohan.
Posters demanding the release of Prabhunath Singh and Anant Singh were put up by Kallu.

BJP’S REACTION
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Arvind Kumar Singh alleged that Nitish Kumar released Anand Mohan due to pressure from the RJD.
“Due to this pressure, all dreaded criminals of Bihar will be released by the state government. This will mark the return of ‘jungle raj’ in Bihar,” the BJP leader said.
Last month, Anand Mohan was released from Saharsa jail after the state government tweaked the Bihar Prisons Manual 2012, facilitating his release. He was convicted in the 1994 Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah murder case.
Since then, the Nitish Kumar-led government and the Opposition have been in war of words over Anand Mohan’s release.
