By Divyesh Singh: The Mumbai zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted an inter-state drug syndicate and seized two kilograms of illegal mephedrone drug worth around Rs 4.5 crores in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Three people, including the drug supplier, were arrested.
During further investigation, Rs 36 lakhs in cash and 147 grams of gold valued at approximately Rs 7.8 lakhs were recovered as sale proceeds.
Initial information was gathered about the syndicate which was operating from Thane. NCB sleuths were informed that the syndicate was procuring mephedrone (commonly known as MD, White Magic and Meow Meow) from other states and further supplying them into Mumbai, Thane and adjoining areas.
Based on the input received, intelligence modules were activated and after a period of monitoring, a person named IGN Ansari, who is based in Bhiwandi, was identified.
Prolonged surveillance and intensive data analysis led to his further identification. Consequently, a close watch on his movement and other details were tracked.

It was analysed earlier that IGN Ansari was planning to supply a drug consignment through a Mumbai-based person. On April 30, specific information was obtained that the receivers were to arrive in Bhiwandi. Immediately, NCB officials setup a discreet trap layout in the possible area of delivery. Later on, the identity of the vehicle and the receivers named PS Veer and Rohan K were obtained.
Soon after the vehicle arrived, both receivers were physically identified but the NCB team waited for the delivery to happen.
Shortly after confirmation that the receivers had procured the drug, NCB officials immediately intercepted the duo red-handed. When questioned, the receivers confessed about the mephedrone drug in possession and recovered two kilograms of it. During further interrogation, they mentioned IGN Ansari.
Immediately, a follow-up team apprehended IGN Ansari from his house.
GOLD, CASH ALSO RECOVERED
During a search operation at his home, huge amounts of cash and gold were recovered. When questioned about the source, the supplier confessed that it was accumulated as drug sale proceeds. NCB officials recovered Rs 36 lakhs in cash and 147 grams of gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 7.8 lakhs.

During the investigation, it was learnt that the accused was aware of the working pattern of law enforcement agencies due to which he was successful in evading the law. He said he had been in the drug business for the last five to six years.
Initially, IGN Ansari started off as a petty street peddler, but he later became the main supplier in the area.
