By Arvind Ojha: Slain gangster Atiq Ahmed had assigned a code name to his brother Ashraf, son Asad and others while forging a plan to execute Umesh Pal, a witness in the Raju Pal murder case.
Atiq Ahmed, while being lodged in the Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, had also provided iPhones to those involved in the killing of Umesh Pal. Atiq himself had three iPhones in prison.
All the accused used the assigned codes as their IDs while having a conversation over a FaceTime application.
One of the pages of Atiq’s diary, accessed by India Today, reveals the code name of each accused involved in the planning of Umesh Pal’s murder.
CODE NAMES
While Atiq Ahmed’s code name was BADE – 006, Ashraf was assigned a code name CHOTE – 007.
Ansh_yadav00 code name belonged to Atiq’s son, Asad. XYZZ1122 was assigned to the accused Niyaz, who was responsible for a recce of Umesh Pal’s house.
The code name Bihar Tower was given to shooter Armaan.
Advo010 was the code name of Atiq’s purported lawyer Khan Soulat Hanif. Patle- 009 belonged to Atiq’s jailed son Ali.
Conversation between Atiq and Niyaz after the murder
The slain gangster had called Niyaz after the murder of Umesh Pal.
Ateeq– Hello. Was Umesh Pal killed in the attack, or did he survive?
Niyaz – Yes, Bhai Jaan Umesh Pal has been killed in the attack

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed in police custody last month. Both were hit by a total of 13 bullets.
The three assailants, posing as journalists, used Zigana pistols (a semi-automatic pistol produced by a Turkish firm) to eliminate both the deceased. The shooters fired over a dozen rounds in just 22 seconds in the presence of a police team.
Atiq Ahmed was hit by eight bullets. A bullet was found in his head, neck, chest and waist, respectively, as per the autopsy report.
Ashraf was shot in the neck, back, wrist, stomach and waist, while three bullets were recovered from his body, and two bullets ripped through him, the autopsy report read.
After shooting dead Atiq and Ashraf, the three accused were nabbed by the police and taken into custody.
According to the FIR filed by UP Police, the moment Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf started talking to the media, one of the shooters dropped his mic and camera and picked up his pistol, and fired at them.
