Ayodhya priest kills self on Facebook live, accuses police of harassment

By India Today News Desk: A Narasimha temple priest allegedly ended his life by hanging himself in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya.

Ram Shankar Das (28) live-streamed the suicide on Facebook. He accused the police of harassment, which prompted him to take the extreme step.

In the live video, Ram Shankar Das made serious allegations against the in-charge of the Raiganj police outpost and a constable posted there.

Station House Officer of Kotwali police station Manoj Sharma dismissed the allegations levelled by the deceased priest, saying that he was addicted to drugs and ended his life under the influence of drugs.

A few days ago, the police had registered a case against Ram Shankar Das in connection with the disappearance of an elderly Mahant, Ram Sharan Das, of the temple. Ram Sharan Das (80) has been missing since January this year, reported news agency PTI.

The police found the body of Ram Shankar Das hanging in his room on temple premises on Monday.

When the priest did not show up for two days, the police opened the door of his room, and found that he had hanged himself by making a cloth noose. Prima facie, it looks like suicide, Manoj Sharma told PTI.

The police have launched a probe into all aspects of the case.
