“The story is really scary and the fact that people are calling it propaganda or are thinking about numbers before that girls went missing is scarier. Instead, it would have been the opposite that we would have discussed that girls are missing and then given a thought about the numbers,” Adah Sharma told ANI.
Political parties in Kerala have all condemned the film and some have called for a ban on its release in the state. Numerous politicians, including Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, have put out statements on social media.
On May 1, Adah Sharma took to her social media to post a response to these statements.

ABOUT THE KERALA STORY
The Kerala Story is a Hindi film directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The movie stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in the lead roles. It revolves around four Malayali women who join IS.
The movie has courted controversy since the character Fatima Ba states in the teaser that 32000 Malayali women joined IS. Some of the political parties in Kerala, including the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, want the film banned in the state.
Congress’ Shashi Tharoor tweeted on May 1 that he did not call for a ban on the movie. He wrote, “Let me stress, I am not calling for a ban on the film. Freedom of expression does not cease to be valuable just because it can be misused. But Keralites have every right to say loud & clear that this is a misrepresentation of our reality.”
Meanwhile, the CBFC has deleted 10 scenes from the film and issued an A certificate. The Examining Committee has reportedly asked for documentary proof of the statistics mentioned in the film’s teaser.
