By Sreya Chatterjee, Arvind Ojha: The killing of gangster Tillu Tajpuria has once again put the spotlight on the notorious operation of gangs in Delhi and the neighbouring northern states. Gang wars are not a new phenomenon in Delhi, the outer districts of the capital have witnessed the emergence of gangs, mainly in Dwarka and South West Delhi.
The gangs are mostly involved in organized crimes like threats, extortions, land grabbings, and gang rivalries for dominance.
In Delhi, the main gangs that operate are Neetu Daboda – the Neeraj Bawana Gang, the Jitender Gogi Gang, and the Tillu Tajpuria Gang.

To further their gang work across Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, the gangs form alliances within themselves and work as a nexus. Currently, there are two main gang nexus operating in northern India.
The gangs also have operatives abroad, which include Italy, Armenia, Canada, America, Dubai, and the Philippines, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. In order to highlight their dominance, every gang has social media handles, which get them millions of viewership.
CRIMINAL ALLIANCES
Lawrence Bishnoi joined hands with Haryana’s gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi. Kala Jathedi is associated with Rajkumar alias Raju Basodi, Naresh Sethi, Anil Chhippi.
At the beginning, Lawrence Bishnoi and Kala Jathedi, as part of their expansion strategy, joined hands with Gurugram-based Sube Gujjar and Rajasthan-based Anandpal Singh.
Subsequently, to further make inroads into Delhi, Bishnoi joined hands with Jitender Gogi, who was gunned down inside Delhi’s Rohini court in a conspiracy planned by a rival gangster, Tillu Tajpuria.
Members of the Gogi gang also included Kuldeep alias Fazza, who was killed in a police encounter, and others. Rohit alias Moi, Kapil alias Gaurav.

The gangs’ key aspect in an operation is that the enemy’s enemy is a friend. This strategy is used by gangs to further expansion. After the killing of Tillu Tajpuria by members of Jitender Gogi gang inside Tihar jail, the Facebook post uploaded by fugitive gangster Goldy Brar extending support is a perfect example of the alliance of this nexus.
DETAILS OF INDIVIDUALS GANGS
Lawrence Bishnoi Gang: The gang is headed by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who hails from Ferozpur district of Punjab and jumped to fame in the gang world after planning the murder of singer Siddhu Moosewala. The gangster has a rivalry with Davinder Bambiha’s gang in Punjab. Lawrence Bishnoi’s criminal syndicate alone has 200+ operatives in Punjab alone. The Bishnoi gang is involved in the organized crime of extortion, contract killings, murders and attempts to murder. The gangster is involved in more than 50 serious cases. Lawrence Bishnoi is supported by close aide Satender Jeet alias Goldy Brar, who allegedly operates from Canada and is also on Canada’s most wanted list. Bishnoi’s other close aide is Virender Pratap alias Kala Rana, who is allegedly hiding and operating from a South-Eastern country. Sampat Nehra, a local man from Rajasthan who was involved in student politics, came in touch with Bishnoi’s crime syndicate and was a mediator in forging an alliance between Lawrence Bishnoi and Kala Jathedi. The gangster along with his other gang members has recently been booked under the MCOC Act by Special Cell besides cases of murder, extortion and the Arms Act. Bishnoi is currently in the custody of Gujarat Police in a narcotics case.

Sube Gujjar gang: Gujjar who was associated with the Kaushal gang parted over a financial dispute. Post this, Gujjar started targeting Kaushal’s business. He allegedly took over Kaushal’s gang after he was arrested. Subsequently, he joined hands with Lawrence Bishnoi – Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi and formed a criminal alliance. He was arrested in May 2021 and is currently lodged in Haryana Jail.
Kala Jathedi gang: In 2020, Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi, after fleeing from the hands of Haryana Police, joined hands with Lawrence Bishnoi, Sube Gujjar and slain Gangster Anandpal Singh. With Lawrence Bishnoi in custody, Kala Jathedi was managing ground operations with the assistance of wanted criminals – Virender Pratap alias Kala Rana (now deported from Thailand), Satenderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar (operating from Canada) and Monty (operating from the UK). Kala Jathedi, arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, is now in jail.
Gogi Gang: Jitender Gogi, who was killed in the Rohini court shootout, was one of the most dreaded gangsters, with his long-term partners Fazza and Moi being the most desperate gangsters in their own might. Fazza, who escaped from the custody of police in March 2021, was killed in an encounter by Special Cell, Delhi. The other operatives of this gang are currently in judicial custody in a Delhi jail. The known faces of the gang who are currently on the run is, Mohit Bhadani, who carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh and escaped police custody. One of the other members of this gang, Deepak Boxer, was arrested by the Delhi Police in an overseas operation with assistance from the FBI. Currently, the gang is being run by Rohit alias Moi and Deepak alias Boxer, who are both in custody.
Anandpal Gang: Anandpal Singh was killed in an encounter in 2017 in Rajasthan’s Churu. After his death, Anuradha Chaudhary, one of his associates, took over the gang. She later married jailed gangster Kala Jathedi and is a member of this gang nexus. Chaudhary has been involved in extortion, land grabbing, inter-state liquor and arms smuggling etc. She currently lives in Haryana in Jathedi’s house.
DAVINDER BAMBIHA – NEERAJ BAWANA – KAUSHAL – TILLU TAJPURIA GANG CRIMINAL ALLIANCE
Inside jail, Tillu Tajpuriya met Neeraj Bawana and they became associates. Both started providing logistical and financial support to each other. Subsequently, the Bambiha gang, who are rivals of the Bishnoi gang, joined hands with the Tillu and Bawana gang, making a parallel alliance between Davinder Bambiha-Neeraj Bawana-Kaushal-Tillu Tajpuria gang. The killings of Vicky Middukhera and Jitender Gogi, followed by Facebook statements of some of the gang operatives, show the alliance between these gangsters.

DETAILS OF THE GANGS PART OF THE NEXUS:
Davinder Bambiha Gang: The Bambiha gang who run their extortion racket mainly in (Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula), are arch rivals of Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra gang, both of whom are arrested. After Bambiha’s encounter in 2016, Dilpreet, along with Sukhpreet alias Budha, had been running the gang. After they were arrested and lodged in jail, Gaurav Patial alias Lucky, was heading the gang from Armenia. The rivalry between the Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs began after the Bishnoi gang started extorting businessmen, from whom the Bambiha group collected protection money. Their bloody rivalry catapulted after Lavi Deora was killed by Sampat and his associates on the direction of Lawrence Bishnoi in 2017. To avenge his death, the Bambiha group killed Gurlal Brar in October, 2020. This followed the killings of Gurlal Bhalwan by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and the murder of Vicky Middukhera by the Bambiha gang. Allegedly, with Siddhu Moosewala’s name wired in the killing of Vicky Middukhera, the Bishnoi gang orchestrated the killing of Moosewala. Apart from other key members, Vinay Deora, who was allegedly behind the murder of Vicky Middukhera, is still on the run.
Neeraj Bawana gang: Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Baku used to work with the Neetu Daboda until they fell out. In 2010-2011, the rivalry between Neeraj Bawana and Neetu Dabodia on the outskirts of Delhi to exert dominance had gone out of control. Meanwhile, Neeraj Bawana also expanded his gang. When rival gang head Neetu Daboda was killed in 2013 in an encounter by Delhi Police, Neeraj Bawana used the opportunity of an empty space to exert further dominance. He befriended, waylaid and killed many gangsters and local criminals. He was arrested by Special Cell Delhi in 2015 after a long chase and is in a high security ward. They also have social media handlers who have millions of followers.
Kaushal gang: Kaushal, the son of a property dealer, Kaushal would supply and fix submersible pumps. His tryst with crime began with a land dispute with then gangster Sudesh alias Chhelu in 2004. The tussle between Kaushal and Chhelu led to the murders of nine members of both gangs. The killings stopped on December 12, 2006, when Kaushal’s men shot dead Chhelu in police custody in Rajiv Chowk. After the encounter of Sandeep Gadoli by Gurugram Police in Mumbai on February 7, 2016 and the arrest of Binder Gujjar, Kaushal emerged as a major gangster in the area. In December 2016, he jumped parole after coming out of Bhondsi jail and could only be arrested in 2019. For those three years, his gang thrived on extortion from traders, property dealers and businessmen. The gangster is currently lodged in Haryana Jail. He is known to be the most dangerous of all current gangsters.
Tillu Tajpuria gang: Jitender Gogi and Tillu Tajpuria used to be friends until conflict of interest. Both in business of extortion and hooliganism had a conflict of interest during the student union elections in 2013 which turned into enmity. These two arch rivals had clashed on various occasions over dominance, leaving scores of people, including innocent bystanders, killed in broad daylight murders. Both Tillu Tajpuria and Jitender Gogi were eliminated in a gang rivalry.
