By Pramod Madhav: A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) in Tamil Nadu has filed a complaint with the police, alleging that some miscreants had attempted to kill him. This comes a week after a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was hacked to death in Tamil Nadu for taking action against sand smuggling.

Ilangova from Ettipatti Alagiri Nagar works as a Village Administrative Officer. Based on a tip off, Ilangova visited a mineral deposit on Monday night to stop illegal mining in the area.

He said he noticed a tractor speeding away with a load and tried to stop it, but the tractor almost ran over him.

Ilangova then tracked the vehicle owner using the registration number and filed a case with Pappireddipatti Police.

The incident happened just days after Lourdes Francis, the VAO of Morappanadu Kovilpathu in Srivaikundam taluk of Thoothukudi district, was hacked to death by a two-member gang for lodging a complaint against one of them for smuggling sand.
