Bollywood has had its share of successful stars who have been kings of the box office. But the mention of successful actors at the box office instantly reminds one of male stars. However, over the last decade or so, we have seen the rise of female actors who have driven films towards box office success on their own shoulders. Actresses like Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt are the biggest examples in this regard.

This year has seen a complete surprise in the list of successful films led by a female star in the form of The Kerala Story, which stars Adah Sharma. During an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh spoke about actresses whose films get exhibitors excited.
Citing the example of The Kerala Story, he said, “Did you expect Adah Sharma’s film (The Kerala Story) will overtake Kangana Ranaut and also Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Raazi? This is box office. It’s unpredictable.”
Speaking about actresses whose films stand a good chance at the box office, Adarsh added, “There is Alia Bhatt. There is Kangana. I would like to mention Kangana as well; it’s very important. Katrina Kaif is coming with Salman (Khan) in Tiger (3). So that is an important combination because their combination in the past has been very good.”
Looking at the current scenario, Adarsh said, “Today the competition is going on is between Deepika and Alia. But then someone like Adah Sharma comes up. I don’t know about her future announcements. Nobody knows. Let’s see now. Kangana has Emergency. It will be worth noticing how much business it does. So, it’s going to be a very interesting phase right now, even for the leading ladies.”
