Social media has helped celebrities to connect with their fans and admirers directly. At the same time, it has also given opportunities to trolls to abuse celebs, more so if these actors have done bold roles or have been embroiled in a controversy. Kubbra Sait came into the limelight thanks to Sacred Games (2008), in which she played transgender. She essayed the role of Cuckoo, the love interest of Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Their sizzling chemistry and Kubbra’s performance were memorable aspects of the show. As expected, many lauded Kubbra Sait’s performance but at the same time, the trolls got an opportunity to badmouth her in her DMs.

Kubbra Sait, in her autobiography ‘Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir’, has talked about it and how she handled trolls and haters in a unique manner. She revealed that once, a user asked, “Dear Mem, are yourself Male, Female or both?”. To which, Kubbra replied, “Son, I’m the three-in-one your mother uses in her kitchen”! And that’s not all. Kubbra penned, “And that’s not it. I also gifted him a gold medal. It was by far the cutest question I was asked.”
In another instance, she was asked for a picture of her ‘pennies’. Taking advantage of the fact that he misspelt penis, Kubbra Sait googled a picture of a stack of pennies (coins) and sent it to the troll!
Kubbra Sait then confessed that her strategy worked and these trolls became her fans. She wrote, “I’ve been called bitch-to-didi in a matter of seconds”. She also added, “There are trolls who will tell me they want to f**k me, and immediately go on to propose marriage. When I politely decline, they confess that I am not the only one they asked out. But I happen to be the nicest one because I replied.”
