Bollywood actor Vijay Varma is currently at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The actor, riding high on the success of his recent crime series Dahaad, has been sharing delightful selfies from the French Riviera. However, this isn’t Vijay Varma’s first time attending the esteemed festival. He made his debut a decade ago in 2013, accompanying the team of his film Monsoon Shootout, directed by Amit Kumar. In a recent interview, Vijay Varma reminisced about that time, mentioning that designers and stylists were unaware of his identity and declined to dress him.
Vijay Varma revealed stylists refused to dress him for his Cannes red carpet debut in 2013; says, “A friend of mine gifted me a Zara suit”
In an interview with Film Companion, he looked back on his maiden trip, and said, “When I came here, I bought one jacket from Zara, which I could afford. But for the main event, for two events, they said you have to wear the whole suit. And I went to people, saying, ‘Can some designer come, can some stylist help me out?’ And they said, ‘Who’s Vijay Varma? We don’t want to dress anybody.’”
He further added, “So, a friend of mine gifted me a Zara suit, which I wore for the morning photocall. And somebody stitched me a tuxedo for the red carpet. When I saw the pictures, they came out on Getty Images and all these places, which I didn’t have money to buy from.” Reflecting on the past, Vijay expressed that he believed he looked good at the time as he had never experienced such an event before. However, upon revisiting those pictures, he humorously associated his appearance to a “Marwari Johnny Depp.”
Apart from Vijay Varma; Sara Ali Khan, Manushi Chhillar, Guneet Monga, Esha Gupta, etc also attended the Cannes Film Festival this year.
On the work front, Vijay gained prominence after his role in Monsoon Shootout, a film that also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Since then, he has achieved success through notable projects like Mirzapur, Gully Boy, Darlings, and most recently, Dahaad. His upcoming film, The Devotion of Suspect X, awaits release.
