Vinay Pathak’s upcoming movie Opium is selected for the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) this year. It has bagged nominations for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay over there. The actor has, over the decades, made a name for himself. But there is something that doesn’t make him feel good.
Vinay Pathak laments, “Majority of films I am associated with go unnoticed”
In a chat with Hindustan Times, Pathak has admitted that he doesn’t like when some of his films go unnoticed. He said, “It happens all the time. Majority of the times, the films I am associated with, they face such fortunes and go unnoticed. And I am not very happy about it. But one gets used to the way things work, so we prepare. I have no idea why this happens with my movies. Had I known why, I would have tried to change it.”
Pathak also spoke about the financial side of filmmaking, which can add to its woes. “When you make a film, by the end of it, the product itself has accrued so much money in the process of getting made. The only feasible way to break even is that you have to sell it. Unfortunately, this has become a thing. If it doesn’t sell, then it’s no good. I don’t think that it should be that way,” he said.
But Pathak is glad about the NYIFF selection of Opium. Directed by Aman Sachdeva, the film also stars Manu Rishi Chadha, Sharib Hashmi and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. “I feel very happy,” said Pathak. “The film finally got picked up by such a prestigious film festival. I really hope that our film does wonders. It’s a very well written and performed anthology.”
