From Batman to Iron Man, comic books have often portrayed technology as a superpower. Publicis Sapient CEO Nigel Vaz says that’s true of the real world too.
Fears of new tech like artificial intelligence — and its implication for jobs — are on the rise, but one CEO thinks technology is actually a superpower.
Nigel Vaz, CEO of digital consultancy Publicis Sapient, explained that it was the rise of computers that helped him unlock his potential.
“As a child growing up, I had dyspraxia which is the inability to perform fine motor skills very effectively,” he told CNBC’s My Biggest Lessons. “That meant it was a struggle to communicate ideas or thinking in written form.”
Discovering computers “changed everything” for him — but he wasn’t the first to see the power and potential of technology.
“I was surrounded as a child by comic books,” Vaz explained. “So many of the comic book heroes, such as Batman or Ironman, are regular people augmented by technology, and that augmentation transformed them into superheroes.”
Vaz said that he believes it’s not just comic book heroes that can use technology as a superpower.
“I believe that lesson applied not only to me as a child, but today applies to every individual and organization in terms of what they create in terms of what they produce,” he explained.
This is just one of Nigel Vaz’s biggest lessons. Watch the video above for more.
