By India Today Web Desk: Two Hizbul militants were arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday in the Mirwaiz Farooq assasination case. The two accused were nabbed by the police 33 years later after Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq was killed on May 21, 1990.
Special DG CID Jammu and Kashmir R R Swain told reporters that out of the five accused in the case, four were absconding. The main accused along with another accused – Abdullah Bangaroo and Ab Rehman Shigan – were killed in encounters.
“Four accused were absconding. Main accused Abdullah Bangaroo was killed in an encounter. Another accused, Ab Rehman Shigan, was also killed in an encounter,” he said as per news agency PTI.
“Javed Bhat alias Azmat Khan and Zahoor Bhat alias Bilal managed to escape. It was Zahoor who had pulled the trigger after entering the bedroom of the Mirwaiz,” he told reporters.
He said that with the arrest of the remaining two accused, “all five accused have been brought to justice.”
