2 jawans injured in shootout with suspected militants in Manipur’s Churachandpur

By Anupam Mishra: Two jawans from the Assam Rifles got injured on Saturday when some suspected militants opened fire from the forest area at a patrolling team in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

The Army officials said that the incident occurred at 12.45 pm when a joint team of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles was patrolling the area in Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the forests, and two soldiers of the Assam Rifles were wounded. They were immediately taken for medical treatment to a nearby hospital, and the gunfight continued from both sides, claimed sources from the Army.

According to sources, on the same day, clashes between the Army and the unidentified gunmen were reported in a jungle at 11.25 am in the district headquarters.

The miscreants fled after the gunfight, and the Army recovered two rifles and ammunition from the spot in Manipur’s Senapati district.

Reports reveal that in recent days, after the Manipur unrest, incidents of attacks on the Indian Army and the state police have increased in the state.

On Thursday, an Army commando was shot to death by a few unknown assailants, and five commandos were injured in the Vishnupur district of Manipur.

In the Churachandpur district, on Wednesday, unknown assailants had opened fire on Assam Rifles soldiers, injuring one of them.

The incidents are specifically taking place in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts of the state.
