By Anirban Sinha Roy: Three people were killed in lightning strikes on consecutive days at different locations in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The deceased include two farmers and a 21-year-old man who was struck by lightning on the banks of the Ganga river.
A farmer from Khargram and another one from Kandi died after they were struck by lightning while they were out in the fields on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Salauddin Sheikh (21), a resident of Enayetnagar, had gone to the banks of the Ganga river in Lakshinagar to sail his boat. He was also helping his two friends raise a boat into the river when it started raining suddenly. Soon afterwards, the three of them were struck by lightning.
Locals took all three to the Anupnagar Hospital in Samserganj where their condition was critical. Later, the doctors declared Salauddin’s death.
Salauddin had gotten married a few months ago.
Heavy rains and thunderstorms have lashed West Bengal for the last few days, with hailstorms reported in some areas. The IMD has issued yellow warnings in several locations as the thunderstorm and lightning are expected to continue.
