By Aneesha Mathur: A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will hear on May 9 review petitions challenging its verdict which upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment that provides 10% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
In November last year, the Supreme Court upheld the 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in admissions and government jobs with a 3:2 majority. Three out of five judges delivered verdicts in favour of the EWS quota, saying it did not violate the law.
