By Rittick Mondal: The Trinamool Congress’s national general secretary and MP, Abhishek Banerjee, will take out a padyatra ahead of the crucial panchayat elections scheduled for this year.
Today, while addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “My party has decided to take on the BJP. I have instructed Abhishek, as he is our national general secretary. I was worried about the summer but they will do it. We will reach out to the people for two months starting April 25. Abhishek Banerjee will conduct a ‘Sanjog Yatra’ across Bengal.”

Sources in the Trinamool Congress told India Today TV that Abhishek Banerjee is likely to formally announce the campaign programme tomorrow to the media. The two-month-long ‘Sanjog Yatra’ will kickstart from April 25 and cover every district of the state, they said, adding that the outreach campaign will focus on the rural vote bank of the party.
The Trinamool does not want complications with candidate selection, the sources said. Abhishek Banerjee can go to the various booths to empower workers during his Yatra and talk about how the Centre is depriving the state, they added.
The party does not want a rerun of the bloodshed that happened in the 2018 panchyat elections, the sources said, adding, Abhishek Banerjee’s Padyatra will help resolve infighting ahead of the elections.
