By Shibimol KG: A drunken patient, who had reached a hospital in Kerala’s Ernakulam district after sustaining injuries in an accident, allegedly attacked the hospital’s house surgeon on Monday night. The incident comes to light almost a week after a 22-year-old woman doctor was stabbed by a drunken at a taluk hospital in Kottarakkara.
Police have arrested the drunken patient, Doyle, a resident of Vattekunnu.
Police said the incident took place on Monday around 10:50 pm when Doyle was brought to the Kalamassery Medical College in Ernakulam district after he met with an accident while he was in an inebriated state.

Police said Doyle Dr Irfan Khan, who was a house surgeon at the hospital.
The doctor said that the patient slapped him on his face and threatened to kill him while he was trying to treat him. The doctors who conducted tests said that the suspect was drunk. The doctors said the attack was carried out without any provocation.
The suspect has been booked under non-bailable Sections of the Hospital Protection Act.

Kalamasery CI Santhosh said the suspect was under police surveillance and was an alcoholic. However, he did not have any pending cases against him.
Following statewide protests by doctors over the murder of a woman doctor, the Kerala government had decided to introduce an ordinance to amend the Hospital Protection Act to ensure the safety of medical professionals. The government will also set up police outposts in major hospitals.
