By Anagha: Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday wished “all the best” to Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, who are frontrunners in the race for the top post.
In the May 10 elections to the 224-member Assembly, the Congress secured a simple majority with 135 seats, while the ruling BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) secured 66 and 19, respectively.
Siddaramaiah, a former chief minister, and DK Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress chief, are in the race for the top job. The Congress has called a meeting of all its Karnataka MLAs today to discuss government formation with leaders eliciting their views on the CM candidate.

During a press briefing, Basavaraj Bommai, the caretaker CM, wished “all the best” to both the Congress leaders. Commenting on the implementation of poll promises by the Congress, the BJP leader said, “First let them form the government and after that let’s see what they will do in the first Cabinet meeting.”
On BJP’s defeat, Bommai said key party leaders have discussed the poll results and in further round of meeting, a constituency-wise poll result review will be done.
Reacting to Congress’s allegation that the BJP’s defeat was PM Modi’s defeat, Bommai said it is not correct to blame the prime minister for the loss in Karnataka.
