By India Today News Desk: President Droupadi Murmu paid floral tributes to BR Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the ceremony held on the Parliament House Lawns where Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi were present too.
Taking to Twitter, the President shared her message on the ‘birth anniversary of the architect of our Constitution, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’.
“A symbol of knowledge and prodigy, Dr Ambedkar worked untiringly, even, in adverse circumstances, as an educationist, legal expert, economist, politician and social reformer and spread knowledge for the welfare of the nation.
PM Modi also offered flowers at a portrait of Ambedkar to mark the occasion.
Former President Ram Nath Kovind, Sonia Gandhi, Kharge, Nationalist Congress President chief Sharad Pawar, among other leaders attended the celebration in New Delhi on Friday.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge took to Twitter to pay his tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution. “We bow in reverence to the tremendous contribution of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Jayanti,” he wrote.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal also extended his greetings on Ambedkar Jayanti and wrote on Twitter, “Millions of salutations to respected Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. Let us all together make such an India where every child of the country gets the best education, the country progresses and becomes the number-1 country in the world.”

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju paid his respects to the first law minister of the country. Taking to Twitter, Rijiju shared, “The first Law Minister of India, and architect of the Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar continues to inspire us to stand for social justice & equality. I pay my tribute to Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar on his Jayanti”
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati also paid her tributes to Babasaheb.
Born on April 14, 1891, Ambedkar is noted as one of the most prominent social reformers of the country. He was the first Law Minister and was the architect of the Constitution. He died on December 6, 1956.
