By India Today News Desk: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed broke down and cried profusely after hearing about his son Asad’s encounter. Asad, who was an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed along with shooter Ghulam in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi.
Asad’s encounter came the same day his father, gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Prayagraj in the Umesh Pal murder case, along with his brother Ashraf.
Atiq got the news of his son’s encounter when he was being produced in the Prayagraj court this morning. After finding out about the encounter, he wept bitterly in court. Atiq’s brother Ashraf, who was also produced in the court, was in shock after the news of his nephew’s encounter.
Both Asad and Ghulam had Rs 5 lakh bounty on their heads. The encounter was led by Deputy SP Navendu and Deputy SP Vimal.
UP STF ADG Amitabh Yash said the team had been tracking Asad and Ghulam for the last one and a half months. He said they had last missed Gulam by a delay of just five minutes but they successfully traced him to Jhansi where he was killed in the encounter.
India Today correspondent in Jhansi said Asad and Ghulam were on a bike when the police asked them to stop for routine checking. They did not stop and started firing at the police. The STF team had fired back at them and the two were killed in the ensuing gunfire.
Several sophisticated foreign-made weapons were also recovered from the deceased.
