By India Today News Desk: Hours after a scuffle broke out between protesting wrestlers and Delhi Police at Jantar Mantar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack at the BJP, accusing it of unleashing atrocities on the daughters of India.
“Such behaviour with the players of the country is very shameful. ‘Beti Bachao’ is just a hogwash! In fact, BJP has never shied away from unleashing atrocities at the daughters of India,” said the Gandhi scion on Twitter.
“It is very sad to see the tears of women sportspersons who have brought laurels to the country and their families with their hard work and dedication. They should be heard and justice should be given,” said Congress leader and Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also slammed the BJP over the scuffle between grapplers and the cops.
“Such misbehaviour with the champion players of the country? This is very sad and shameful. The arrogance has rigged the mind of the BJP. These people want to run the whole system with hooliganism. They have made a mockery of the whole system.”
He appealed to the people to drive the BJP out of power.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came out in the support of women wrestlers and said “I as a human being definitely stand by our wrestlers.”
“Disrobing the honour of our daughters in this manner is utterly shameful. India stands by its daughters and I as a human being definitely stand by our wrestlers. Law is one for all “Law of the ruler” cant hijack the dignity of these fighters”‘, said the chief minister.
“You can assault them but can’t break their spirit. The fight is right and the fight will continue. Don’t dare to hurt our wrestlers, the nation is watching their tears and the nation won’t forgive you. I urge our wrestlers to stay strong, I share all my strength with them,” she added.
WHY ARE WRESTLERS PROTESTING
The second phase of heavy protests is being carried out by Indian wrestlers, including Olympics winners, who have accused the WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual assault allegations, including that of a minor wrestler.
