By Suryagni Roy: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s West Bengal unit on Tuesday called for a NIA probe into the blast at an illegal firework factory in East Midnapore’s Egra that costed nine lives. BJP state president Sukanta Majumder wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a probe by the National Investigation Agency.
In the letter, Sukanta Majumder sought NIA probe from Amit Shah considering the “sensitivity and complexity” of the case.

“I earnestly request your kind intervention to direct the NIA to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the Egra bomb blast. The NIA, with its expertise in handling cases related to terrorism, organized crime, and illegal activities, would be best equipped to unearth any potential connections, identify the culprits, and ensure justice for the victims and their families,” wrote Sukanta Majumder.
Reacting to the demand of NIA, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stated that she had no objection to NIA but leaders should not play politics.

“Ones who shout NIA, I don’t have any issues. If justice is received through NIA, why will I mind. We have started our investigation. Keep politics out of it, and let police do their job. I don’t have any objection to any Central probe” said Mamata Banerjee.
The blast occurred in the illegal firecracker factory in Egra earlier in the day. Plumes of grey smoke were seen from the spot following the explosion. According to police sources, the factory was raided last month and action taken against its owner.
