By Pankaj Upadhyay: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Wednesday attacked NCP leader Jitendra Awhad over his remarks on the controversal film, The Kerala Story, calling him a “maulana”. He also dared Jitendra Awhad to stop the screening of the movie in Maharashtra.
Earlier, Jitendra Awhad termed the movie, which is at the centre of a controversy over its content, “hate propaganda” and even called for the film producer Vipul Shah to be “hanged in public”.
In response, Somaiya termed Awhad a “maulana” and said the NCP leader was worried about his Muslim vote bank.
“Is Jitendra Awhad favouring the Islamic State (IS) now? He is concerned about the Muslim vote bank of his area — Mumbra. Has he forgotten about the Shraddha Walkar case? Doesn’t he have no concern for those thousands of girls who faced atrocities?” he asked.

The BJP leader also attacked Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and asserted that even he would have hanged the producer of the film if it were released during his tenure.
“Uddhav Thackeray gave up saffron and became crazy for green. But he should remember now that the government has changed. This is Eknath Shinde’s government. I asked Sharad Pawar as well — what’s bothering you people? The film will continue to be featured and BJP workers are helping to show it all around. I congratulate the producer of the film for showing the reality of the girls of the state,” Somaiya said.
Somaiya revealed that he had a word with the film’s producer, Vipul Shah, and had assured him of all support and security.
Hitting out at the Opposition, Somaiya said, “If you have guts, show us by just touching the producer of the film. This is not the government of Uddhav Thackeray anymore. In Kerala, there are Christian girls as well who have been victims of this scam.”

The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, was released in cinemas on May 5. Even before the film’s release, its trailer sparked a controversy which previously claimed that 32,000 women were abducted and radicalised by the terror group IS.
Since then, opposition parties have termed the movie “propaganda”, while the BJP is going all out to promote the film, arguing it depicts the reality.
