By Ashraf Wani: A 13-year-old boy was killed and two others injured after an unexploded landmine from the Kargil war exploded in a remote village in Kargil district of Ladakh on Sunday.
The three teenagers were playing near the Astro football ground at Kurbathang when they found an unexploded landmine, believed to be from the 1999 Kargil war. They started fiddling with it, which resulted in its explosion.
According to news agency PTI, the deceased has been identified as Baqir,13. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital. The other two boys, Ali Naqi and Muntazir Mehdi, were admitted to the hospital.
Ladakh Lt Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra visited the injured boys in the hospital. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased boy and Rs 1 lakh assistance to the injured boys.
