By Anupam Mishra: Troops of Border Outpost Anuradhapur, 44 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, doused the massive fire that broke out in the Hazel Jungle area of West Bengal’s Malda district on May 10, 2023. The fire erupted in some parts of the Hazel Forest Reserve and quickly spread across the area.

Upon receiving information about the fire, the company commander of the border outpost, Anuradhapur, along with 17 jawans and fire extinguishers, immediately reached the spot and tried to douse the fire. The jawans worked relentlessly for about four hours and successfully brought the fire under control.

The commanding officer of the 44 Battalion said that the efforts put in by the BSF jawans saved the forest area from further destruction and ensured the safety of the animals and birds in the region. He added that the BSF conducts a plantation campaign on the border, under which thousands of new varieties of trees are planted every year. The campaign also ensures the protection of the birds and animals living in the forest.
