By Suryagni Roy: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sent their fact-finding report to West Bengal chief secretary in the Tiljala minor murder case.
On March 26, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and murdered by her neighbour in the name of human sacrifice in Kolkata’s Tiljala area.
According to the fact-finding report, during the interaction with the victim’s family, the commission observed that the police station concerned refused to lodge a missing complaint of the minor girl. It happened despite the family showed the photo of their missing daughter to the police.
The police failed to recognise the sensitivity of the matter and shifted their legal obligation to the family members, asking them to trace their daughter themselves, amounting to the violation of Section 166A (c) of the Indian Penal code, 1860, claimed the report.
The report also stated that the human sacrifice angle was fabricated by the police.

The report reads, “It is pertinent to mention here that the police officials, due to their negligence, had failed in finding and rescuing the victim girl alive on time. They rather fabricated a fallacious story of ‘Human Sacrifice’ to save their skin.”
“However, the cases of human sacrifice involve death by beheading and in the present case, it is evident that the cause of death of the victim girl was due to strangulation of the neck by ligature,” the report further stated.
