Congress demands white paper on Pulwama attack after ex-J&K guv’s revelations

[ad_1]

By India Today News Desk: Weeks after former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik’s allegations over the 2019 Pulwama attack, the Congress on Sunday asked the Centre to issue a white paper on the incident to provide answers.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said the “facts” on Pulwama attack should be announced because not only do the people of the country deserve it, but the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the incident deserve it.

Malik, who was then the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, recently alleged that intelligence failure led to the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. His remark triggered a political storm, with the opposition parties targeting the BJP-led government over the matter.

Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had evaded the question when asked about Satya Pal Malik’s allegations at a recent media event.

“Congress party is demanding a White Paper. A white paper into the facts of what happened in 2019, a white paper which goes into all the points which have been raised by the former Governor Satya Pal Malik…,” Gogoi said.

WHAT DID SATYA PAL MALIK SAY?

In an interview with a news portal, Satya Pal Malik alleged that there were lapses in security protocol that led to the February 2019 Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed. He had alleged that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had asked for aircraft to ferry troops but the request was denied by the Union Home Ministry.
