By Rahul Gautam: After Delhi, the Punjab Congress has now decided to go full throttle against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) even as efforts by the grand old party are underway to cobble up opposition unity ahead of the 2024 elections.
A top Punjab Congress leader told India Today TV that the party’s state unit will not dilute its attacks on Kejriwal and the AAP amid the ongoing efforts to stitch up opposition unity. “The AAP ended Congress in Punjab and we cannot be seen going soft on them.”
There is a sense in the Punjab Congress that people should see the party as an alternative to the AAP and for that, it must continue attacking the AAP to create a narrative of its own.
PUNJAB UNIT DUBS AAP CORRUPT
Arvind Kejriwal deserves no mercy when it comes to his make-believe fight against corruption, Punjab’s Leader of Opposition in the assembly and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa tweeted on Monday.

“To date, the people of Delhi and Punjab have failed to see the Lokpal Bill being introduced and implemented in letter and spirit to fight corruption,” he added.
The Congress leader demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation, or the CBI, should probe the Punjab liquor scam and claimed that the AAP is the BJP’s B-team and it proves that in every election.
AJAY MAKEN, DELHI CONGRESS BLAME AAP FOR WIPING OFF CONGRESS
Pratap Singh Bajwa echoed the same sentiment earlier exhibited by the Delhi Congress leader and former minister, Ajay Maken. Maken had urged his party leaders to not show any sympathy towards Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP, who, he alleged, are facing grave graft charges.

Moreover, Delhi Congress chief Anil Chaudhary has also been claiming credit for exposing the liquor policy scam and sending Manish Sisodia to jail.
CENTRAL LEADERSHIP UNDERSTANDS PAIN OF STATE LEADERS
A senior leader, in an off-record conversation, said that the Congress’s central leadership clearly understands the sentiments of the state units where the party lost power to the AAP – Delhi and Punjab. The leader said that one cannot blame the state leaders for giving statements against the AAP, especially in Punjab, where just a year back the AAP dethroned the Congress. However, the leader added that they need to see the bigger picture – to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
CONGRESS KA HAATH, AAP KE SAATH?
Amid all this, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge telephoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, a day after the AAP convenor was summoned by the CBI and stressed the need for opposition parties to unite against the BJP ahead of the 2024 general elections, sources said.
