By Rajesh Saha: Kuntal Ghosh, an expelled TMC leader who is currently in jail in connection with a teachers’ recruitment scam, has written a complaint to the Kolkata Police. In the letter, Ghosh alleged that during the interrogation, pressure was being put on him by the Enforcement Directorate to name influential persons like Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Kuntal Ghosh submitted the letter before the jail authority, who forwarded it to the Hastings police station in Kolkata via email. Sources said a general diary was registered at Hastings police station in Kolkata over Kuntal Ghosh’s allegations.
Challenging Kuntal’s complaint, the ED approached the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday.
WHAT IS THE CASE?
Kuntal Ghosh also wrote a letter to the judge of a CBI special court alleging that he was pressurised by the central probe agency during the interrogation.
While being produced before a special court last week, Kuntal admitted having sent a confidential letter to a special judge. On the same day after returning from court, Kuntal Ghosh wrote this compliant letter addressed to Kolkata Police, and submitted it before jail authority. The same letter was transferred to Hastings police station through presidency jail.
On Wednesday, the matter was heard by Justice Abhijeet Ganguly. The court directed a district judge to submit the same letter before the Calcutta High Court.
The court also held that Kolkata Police cannot take coercive action against the central probe agency based on this allegation raised by Kuntal Ghosh.
