By Ritvick Arun Bhalekar: A delegation of the Shiv Sena (UBT) handed over a 79-page letter seeking expedited action in the disqualification of 16 Shinde camp MLAs during their meeting with Maharashtra’s deputy Speaker Narhari Zhirwal and Assembly secretary Jitendra Bhole.
The Whip of Shiv Sena (UBT), Sunil Prabhu, said that Supreme Court has ruled that the Speaker can adjudicate the disqualification of the 16 Shinde camp MLAs. Accordingly, the UBT Sena’s delegation submitted a letter to the Speaker. “But since the Speaker is yet to return from his foreign tour, we submitted the letter to his deputy,” Prabhu said.
As per the Supreme Court’s orders, reasonable time has been given to decide on the disqualification of the 16 MLAs. “Hence, we have demanded that reasonable time be defined as soon as possible and action be expedited,” he said.

Another Uddhav camp MLC, Sachin Ahir, said that as per the previous precedence, the decision should be taken within three months. The procedure cannot be endless or else question will be arising on the intention of Assembly speaker, Ahir said.
He also did not rule out the possibility of approaching the Supreme Court for a review petition by the Uddhav Thackeray camp in case the prosecution is delayed.
Opposition leader and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar claimed that the Shinde-Fadnavis government has no threat whatsoever. In a 288-member assembly, the government will not lose its majority mark, even if 16 MLAs are disqualified, Pawar reasoned.
“However, this is my opinion based on my 32 years of legislature experience. One should not mistake it as Maha Vikas Aghadi’s stand,” Ajit Pawar clarified.
