Hearing underway on Rahul Gandhi’s plea against conviction in Surat court

A hearing in defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is underway in Surat session court. The Congress leader had sought a stay on conviction and suspension of the two-year sentence. Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a lower court and sentenced to prison for two years last month for a speech in which he linked PM Modi’s last name with two fugitive businessmen, remarking how the “thieves” shared the same last name.
