By Arvind Ojha: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed used to issue threats from jail and son Asad carried out his father’s orders to raise extortion money, according to audio tapes exclusively accessed by India Today. Money extorted by Atiq and Asad from a builder in January this year was used to execute the murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, according to sources.
Instances of Atiq’s reign of terror are coming to the fore since the UP gangster was shot dead point-blank by three men posing as journalists in Prayagraj on Saturday last week.
Asad Ahmed, who was killed in an encounter with police personnel in Jhansi along with his aide Ghulam, commanded respect among Atiq’s henchmen. At the behest of his father, Asad used to collect money and carry out the gangster’s orders on the ground.
THREATENING BUILDER FROM JAIL
Atiq Ahmed was running his crime syndicate using mobile phones from Sabarmati Jail. In January this year, he had threatened a builder named Mohammad Muslim and demanded Rs 5 crore.

Asad – No, he wants to meet you.
Builder – Then a meeting will be done.

Asad – Then how will we meet again?
Builder – We will meet somewhere, wherever you will say.
Asad- No no. You had to meet Umar bhai.
Builder – Let me see. Since I rarely go to the court. I did meet those people once there.
Asad- hmmm
