Hindu trust files lawsuit seeking to ‘reclaim’ idols buried under steps of Agra’s Jama Masjid

By Siraj Qureshi: The Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sanrakshit Seva Trust has filed a lawsuit before a civil judge to “reclaim” the idols of Lord Keshavdev, which the trust claims were buried under the steps of Jama Masjid in Agra.

The case was filed by the trust’s chairman, Manoj Kumar Pandey, on May 11.

Accepting the suit, the court issued notice to the defendants and asked them to file their response by May 31.

The notices were issued to the Shahi Masjid Agra Fort’s Intazamia Committee, the Chhoti Masjid Diwan-e-Khas, the secretary of the Jahanara Begum Masjid Agra Fort, the chairman of the UP Central Waqf Board, and the Secretary of Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan.

Devkinandan Thakur, a religious preacher from Mathura who recently held a ‘Bhagwat Katha’ in Agra, is the trust’s patron. During the event, Devkinandan demanded that Lord Keshavdev’s idols be restored to Hindu hands.

Manoj Pandey claimed to have abundant evidence of Lord Krishna statues being buried beneath the mosque’s stairs. He also stated that he had the contents of a book written during Aurangzeb’s reign, which he would present in court.

He stated that the Trust was willing to bear all of the costs of digging up the steps and then restoring them to their original state as a show of solidarity.

Manoj Pandey said that numerous historical reports proved that Aurangzeb razed the Keshavdev temple in 1670 and buried the idol of Keshavdev beneath the steps of the Jama Masjid in Agra.

The trust’s legal team comprises Brajendra Singh Rawat, Vinod Shukla, Krishna Rawat, Dilip Dubey, Nitin Sharma, and others.
