By Himanshu Mishra: Police on Sunday arrested 10 people for their involvement in a horse cart race on Delhi road at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg from Rajghat towards Delhi Gate, Civic Centre.
Delhi Police received information on Sunday evening at about 4.30 pm, that some people were engaged in horse racing at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg from Rajghat towards Delhi Gate, Civic Centre and moving towards Paharganj. A police team immediately put barricades on the road near PS Kamla Market.
Four horse-carts and six people riding these carts have been apprehended. Besides, some people riding on scooties and motorcycles were also moving with them for the purpose of clearing the road for the said race. Two scooties and one motorcycle along with four people have also been apprehended.
These people were creating a nuisance on the road and putting the lives of road users in danger. Hence, action under Section 289/268/188/34 IPC with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty against Animals Act has been initiated.
Horse-carts and vehicles as mentioned above have been seized while the horses will be handed over to the MCD.
Further investigation is in progress.
