By Sagay Raj: Former Karnataka chief minister and disgruntled BJP leader, Jagadish Shettar, has set a deadline till tomorrow for the BJP to announce the third list of candidates for the May 10 state elections. He will make a decision tomorrow after talking to his supporters, Shettar said.
“When I met them (the party leaders), they responded positively. They told me that they will have to talk to the senior leaders for a decision. I will wait till tomorrow morning. By noon, I will hold a meeting with my well wishers. My supporters are coming from across the state. They are with me, they are saying that the BJP shouldn’t have done this and that they have insulted me. They are asking me to make a decision and have promised to stand by me,” Shettar said.
Jagadish Shettar, who is determined to fight the polls next month, was reportedly told by the BJP to make way for the younger candidates. However, after several resignations and a brewing rebellion, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said there was a 99 per cent chance that Shettar would be given a ticket.

“I am a positive-thinking person. Until this moment, I have positive expectations. When I met JP Nadda ji the other day, I conveyed to him that I would wait two days and asked them to decide by then. Likewise, I have waited two days now. Tomorrow, all my well wishers are coming. We will discuss the issue and take their opinion. If the BJP does not announce the list, I will take my next course of action,” Shettar said.
Protesting against the delay in announcement of a ticket to Shettar, 16 BJP members from the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation tendered mass resignations to the party’s state chief, Nalin Kumar Kateel.
The BJP released its first list of 189 candidates on Tuesday and the second list of 23 candidates on Wednesday, leaving several leaders miffed. Many MLAs and MLCs hoped for a ticket but found no mention in the two lists. This triggered a series of resignations, including that of the former deputy Chief Minister, Laxman Savadi.
