By India Today News Desk: The father of an IIT-Bombay student, Darshan Solanki, who died by suicide, wrote a letter to the special investigation team (SIT) and requested them to probe the case from a caste discrimination angle.
In the letter, Darshan Solanki’s father Ramesh claims that his son faced harassment due to his caste while he was a student at IIT Bombay. The father has also demanded clone copies of his son’s electronic devices be returned to the family.
Darshan Solanki ,18, a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, had died after jumping off the seventh floor of the hostel building on February 12.
The SIT of Mumbai Police probing the case had recovered a note that mentions harassment by a hostel mate. SIT sources said that in the purported suicide note, Solanki accused another student Armaan Iqbal Khatri, of harassing and threatening him after a dispute.
“Armaan has killed me,” was written on the note, police said. However, the family of Darshan Solanki does not believe it to be a case of suicide.
