In almost 2 months, 6 behind Umesh Pal murder including Atiq killed

By India Today News Desk: As many as six people related to Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, including himself, have been killed in less than two months since Umesh Pal and two policemen were shot dead outside his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. The list of six includes Atiq, his son Asad, associates Arbaz, Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman and Ghulam Hassan.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Prayagraj late Saturday night in the presence of police when they were being taken for a medical examination. Atiq and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction.

On Thursday, Atiq’s son Asad and his accomplice, both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were shot dead in an exchange of fire with the Uttar Pradesh Police near Jhansi.

The first encounter happened on February 27 when Arbaz, who drove the SUV of the assailants of Umesh Pal, was killed in Prayagraj. This was followed by the encounter of Vijay alias Usman on March 6, again in Prayagraj. these two were also accused of killing Umesh Pal.

HOW SIX AIDES OF ATIQ WERE KILLED

On April 13, Asad and Ghulam were shot dead by police in an exchange of firing in Jhansi. Guddu Muslim, Armaan and Sabir, all aides of Atiq, are on the run, and all of them carry a reward of Rs 5 lakh on their heads.

Late Saturday night, Atiq and Ashraf, who were in Uttar Pradesh Police custody for several crimes, including the kidnapping and murder of Umesh Pal, were shot dead. The murder took place in front of media cameras and the three people involved in the shooting were seen raising their hands and surrendering to the police officers who were present at the spot.

With these deaths, don Atiq’s family has been ‘almost wiped out’, a senior police officer said.

Atiq Ahmed’s wife, Shaista Parveen, also an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, is absconding. She carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on her head.

While Atiq’s two sons, Umar and Ali, are in jail, his two minor sons are in the Children Protection Home under the close watch of the police.

It is to be noted that Atiq had flagged that he faced threats to his life. A month before his son Asad and his aide were killed, Atiq had knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court for his protection in custody in the Umesh Pal murder case.

The top court had, however, opined that it wasn’t a case for SC’s interference and had advised him to approach the high court. “The state machinery will take care of you,” the bench had said.
