By Manjeet Negi: India and China held the 18th round of Corps Commander talks on Sunday in the eastern Ladakh sector to resolve the issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). While the Indian delegation was led by Lieutenant General Rashim Bali, an officer of the same rank led the talks from the Chinese side from the local theatre command, top government sources informed India Today.
The meeting was crucial as it took place just before the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meet, in which Chinese defence minister Li Shangfu will also be taking part and discussing issues concerning the two sides.

India and China have been engaged in a military stand-off for the last three years and both nations have deployed heavy troops in the eastern Ladakh sector.
The Chinese have been strengthening their air and ground forces in the areas opposite Ladakh with new air fields and military garrisons coming up to tackle Indian preparedness. India has been regularly deploying newer radars and air defence systems in the Eastern Ladakh sector to tackle any Chinese misadventure.

The two sides are also rapidly doing infrastructure development in the high mountainous borders to strengthen their respective positions.
The two sides are understood to have discussed de-escalation and legacy issues of Depsang plains and Demchok in the talks held on Sunday. Sources said India and China have been able to resolve some of the issues that had come up for discussion during the talks in the previous rounds.
