By India Today Web Desk: The Indian Embassy in Sudan on Friday announced that no more Indians were waiting at Port Sudan to be evacuated. India launched Operation Kaveri on April 24 to evacuate stranded Indians from crisis-hit Sudan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), nearly 3,800 Indians have been rescued so far from Sudan by Indian Air Force aircraft and Indian Navy vessels.

WHY IS SUDAN BURNING?
The crisis in Sudan started on April 15 when a fierce gunbattle broke out between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the military headed by Lt Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
At least 528 people have been killed and another 1,800 people have been wounded in the violent clashes.
INDIA’S OPERATION KAVERI
On April 2024, the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy jointly launched Operation Kaveri to evacuate stranded Indians from Sudan. Initially, the Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed two of its C130J Super Hercules transport aircraft at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the Indian Navy deployed INS Sumedha at Port Sudan. Later, the IAF also used C17 Globemaster aircraft to rescue Indians. So far, Indians have moved out using five naval ships and 17 airforce aircraft.
