By Press Trust of India: The family of injured Indian mountaineer Anurag Malu is planning to fly him to New Delhi from Nepal for further treatment as infection is spreading in his body, a relative and an official of the expedition company Malu was part of said here on Tuesday. He was rescued on the third day from a crevasse after he went missing during an expedition on Mount Annapurna.

Anurag, 34, a resident of Kishangarh in Rajasthan, went missing on April 18 from an altitude of 6,000 metres while descending from Camp III of Mount Annapurna. Mount Annapurna is the 10th-highest mountain peak in the world.

He was found alive in a deep crevasse at an altitude of 5,800-metre on April 20 after a relentless search by a rescue team. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital in Pokhara, Nepal, and then airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Sudheer, Anurag’s cousin, told the media that the family was planning to fly him to New Delhi for further treatment but, couldn’t confirm anything untill all arrangements were made.

“His infection has spread and he needs further treatment, so he will soon be flown to Delhi,” an official at the Seven Summit Trek, the organiser of the expedition of which Anurag was a part of, said.

The official, however, said that he had no information as to when the Indian mountaineer would be discharged from the hospital in Kathmandu and flown to New Delhi.

Earlier, doctors said that Malu’s health was gradually improving, though his condition was not out of danger.

Malu was still on ventilator support at the Intensive Care Unit of the Medicity Hospital, in Kathmandu.

He was on a mission to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres and the seven highest points in all seven continents to create awareness and drive action towards achieving the UN Global Goals.

He has been awarded REX Karam – Veer Chakra and became the 2041 Antarctic Youth Ambassador from India.
