By Anupam Mishra: Internet services were suspended across the state of Manipur for the next five days after fresh violence was reported in Bishnupur and Churachandpur. The authorities have also imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.
The Bishnupur District Magistrate said the measures have been implemented to prevent “breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility and grave danger to human lives and properties.”
The situation continues to remain tense in several areas days after a mob vandalised and set on fire the venue where Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was scheduled to hold a programme in Churachandpur district.
Tension gripped the district following protests and arson in New Lamka town in Churachandpur district over the eviction of Kuki villagers from reserve forest areas.
