By India Today News Desk: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu met and extended his support to the wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday.
In a long Twitter post along with the pictures from the meeting, the former Punjab Congress president said, “To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice !!! âæ. why was the FIR delayed ? âæâæ. Not making the FIR public reflects that the FIR is mild and not corroborative to the complainant’s complaintâæ.. intent is questionable and motive is to protect the accusedâæâæ Are things being swept under the carpet (sic)?”
Questioning why Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who faces allegations of sexual harassment by some female wrestlers, is still not arrested, Navjot Singh Sidhu said, “Is law different for the high and mighty? Why does the man in question continues to be in the position of influence and dominance which can make and break anyone’s career? With him at the helm of affairs a fair investigation is impossible.”

Sidhu said the only way forward to a meaningful investigation and to uncover the truth is custodial interrogation.
“The fight is for the honour, integrity and dignity of every womenâæâæ a society that doesn’t respect women is going downhill âæâæ if women of high esteem and achievement who’ve brought glory to the nation are treated so shabbily then imagine the fate of those on the streets (sic)?” Sidhu said.
Some of India’s top wrestlers such as Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik are sitting on protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and asserted that they won’t leave the protest site at Jantar Mantar in Delhi until the WFI president is arrested.
Two FIRs have been filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, including one pertaining to allegations levelled by a minor victim which has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
