By Ranjay Singh: An 11-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, fearing being scolded for purchasing ice-cream in exchange for two handfuls of wheat, police said.
The incident took place in Bhawanipur village where the deceased was staying with her family and her nine-year-old younger sister.
An ice-cream seller passed by the area where the girl was staying. She bought the ice-cream after giving the seller two handfuls of wheat. On coming to know about this, her younger sister demanded an ice-cream but by that time, the ice-cream seller had gone.
Crying bitterly, the younger sister threatened to complain to her parents who were working in the wheat fields about the incident. Later, when the parents returned home from the fields, they found their elder daughter hanging from the noose in the house.
The body has been sent for post mortem by the police.
