By Vivek Rajagopal: The Kerala forest department began receiving signals again from the radio collar attached to the tusker translocated to the Periyar Tiger Reserve from Chinnakanal near Munnar in the state. The signal was lost last night. As per latest information, the elephant ‘Arikomban’ is near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
After the signal loss, authorities were worried whether the elephant had entered a residential area. According to reports, the elephant traveled about 20 kilometers in three days. As per the Kerala Forest Department, its health is satisfactory. ‘Arikomban’ was at the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border when the signal was lost.
Heavy rain in the eastern part of Idukki since last evening is believed to be the reason behind the loss of signal. The dense forest could also have led to the signal loss. Two teams were assigned to look for the elephant.
