Kolkata man wins gold medal for India at BFAME Championship in Lahore

By Rajesh Saha: A metro staff, Sumit Mukherjee from Kolkata bagged four gold medals in the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle-East Championship (BFAME) held at Pakistan’s Lahore. Sumit was the only railway staff in the Indian contingent which had 24 members.

The Championship was held from May 5 to May 13, in which several teams belonging to five different countries took part.

The Indian team participated in games that were divided in four categories, namely: open, ladies, mixed and senior. Sumit Mukherjee represented India in the open category.

Sources said the teams that played under each category had six players in it.

According to reports, Sumit is returning to Kolkata on the night of May 14. After his victory, he marked his eligibility to participate in world championships that are scheduled to be held at Morocco’s Marrakech, later in August.

He will also be participating in the Asian Games that will take place in the September-October months of this year in China.

Congratulating Sumit Mukherjee, General Manager Metro Railway P Uday Kumar Reddy wished him all the best for his forthcoming tournaments.

The general manager also said that he hopes Sumit will continue bringing more laurels to the Indian Railways and the country as well.

Earlier in 2018, Sumit Mukherjee won a bronze medal in Jakarta Asian Game. He also bagged the 4th Asia Cup Bridge Championship held at Jakarta in 2022.

Apart from this, Sumit has won many national and international titles.
