By Himanshu Shiva Purohit: In an act of desperation, a labourer threw his year-old child on the stage when Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was addressing a public gathering in Sagar. It was the father’s attempt at trying to save the infant’s life.
Mukesh Patel, a labourer by profession, wanted to draw the CM’s attention to his plight. Patel’s action caused quite a stir at the event on Sunday and also caught CM Chouhan’s attention.
The one-year-old child landed a foot away from the dais amid the crowd of people. The security personnel at the event immediately handed him over to his mother.
Patel’s action, however, prompted CM Chouhan to find out his grievances.
Patel told officials present at the spot that his son had a hole in his heart and needed treatment that he couldn’t afford. The message reached the CM, who then promised all possible help to the family.
CM Chouhan also instructed Collector Deepak Arya to send the complainant’s case to the CM House.
Mukesh Patel is a resident of Sahajpur village in Kesli tehsil of Sagar. He lives with his wife Neha, and their one-year-old son.
Speaking to the media, Mukesh said doctors had detected a hole in his son’s heart when he was 3 months’ old. He claimed to have spent over Rs 4 lakh for his son’s treatment so far, despite not being able to afford it.

“Our child is one-year old now. The doctor has asked us to get a surgery done. They said it will cost Rs 3.50 lakh. It is not possible for us to collect such huge amount. We want our child to be treated, but no one is helping us,” Mukesh said, adding that he was hoping to get some help from CM Chouhan.
“But we were not even allowed to meet the Chief Minister. The policemen were not helping us out to reach him either. But I needed to be heard, so I threw my child on the stage. Now the officials have taken heed of the matter and asked us to come meet the CM tomorrow,” Mukesh said.
Chouhan was addressing a gathering of the Kushawaha and Jat communities in the state, a day after his party faced a big defeat in the Assemby polls in the southern state of Karnataka.
