By Kamaljit Kaur Sandhu: In a joint operation, Punjab and Delhi Police officials detained a man and a woman who helped fugitive Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh flee, sources told India Today. Gurjant Singh and Nisha Rani were detained after a two-hour-long search operation from a house in Sector 88 in Mohali on Monday night.
The duo have been accused of helping Amritpal Singh flee and they also provided other assistance to him, sources said.
Punjab Police launched a major crackdown on Amritpal Singh and members of his ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit on March 18. The Khalistan separatist escaped the police’s net in Jalandhar district, switching vehicles and changing his appearance.
Two days back, Punjab Police arrested a key aide of Amritpal Singh for allegedly providing shelter and other assistance to him in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit. Joga Singh, a resident of Ludhiana and the in-charge of a “dera” in Pilibhit, was arrested from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib after he crossed over to Punjab from Haryana, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Narinder Bhargav told reporters.

Joga Singh provided shelter to Amritpal Singh and his aide Papalpreet Singh in Pilibhit and also arranged vehicles for them.
Amritpal and his close aide Papalpreet Singh, who is now in the police net, fled Punjab on March 18 following a police crackdown. They returned to the state on March 28.
A week ago, police arrested Papalpreet Singh from Amritsar rural and and booked him under the National Security Act.
Amritpal and his associates have been booked in several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.
Police have arrested several key aides of Amritpal Singh for harbouring him and evading police arrest.
