By India Today News Desk: Uttar Pradesh Police has intensified its search operation for gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afsa, who has been on the run for quite some time, just like Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen. Tightening the noose around her, the police have also issued a look-out notice to prevent her from escaping the country.
The police also declared a bounty of Rs 75,000 on Afsa. The police are conducting raids in various places to find her.
Mukhtar Ansari, who was lodged in UP’s Banda jail under the Gangster Act, was sentenced by a court in Uttar Pradesh to 10 years in prison in December last year. Almost 60 criminal cases – of land grabbing, murder and extortion – are registered against him.
According to sources, Mukhtar Ansari’s wife started handling his businesses after he went to jail. During the investigation, it came to light that Afsa Ansari had set up a fraudulent firm through Vikas Construction in Mau. A case was registered in this matter against Mukhtar’s wife and five others, including two of his brothers-in-laws. Later, this case was used as the basis to register a case under the Gangster Act.
The CO City, Maun, Dhananjay Mishra, stated that the Mau Police had announced a bounty on Afsa two days ago. After that, a lookout notice was issued. The arrest of Mukhtar’s wife has become a challenge for the Mau police.
Afsa Ansari listed as member of IS-191 gang in police records
The police in Gazipur district released a list of criminals with rewards on their heads. The list includes names of 12 criminals on whom rewards have been announced by the police. Afsa Ansari is involved in cases under sections 406, 420, 386, and 506 in the Kotwali police station area. Afsa is also accused of seizing government land in Nandganj, apart from the Gazal Hotel land deal. In police records, Afsa Ansari is marked as a member of the IS-191 gang. In some cases, Afsa’s two brothers were also named by the police. The police carried out raids at several places in search of Afsa, but to no avail.
Police release list of 12 criminals
A reward of Rs 25,000 have been announced on the list of criminals released by Mau Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey, including Sonu Musahar from Maniya, Saddam Hussein from Chakfaredi, Veerendra Dubey from Bangawa, Ankit Rai from Emilia, Ankur Yadav from Nasratpur, Ashok Yadav from Tyokhar in Siddharthana police station, Amit Rai from Joga Musahib, Angad Rai from Shooter Sherpur in Mukhtar, Ravi Bind from Chakiya, and Sonu Bind from Sakara.
What is the entire case about?
Land was purchased near Raini village in South Tola of Mau, by forming a firm named Vikas Construction and a godown was constructed on it. That godown was given on rent by the firm to FCI. This firm was registered in the name of five people, including Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afsa Ansari, his two brothers-in-law Anwar Sahjad and Atif Raza as well as Ravindra Narayan Singh and Zakir Hussain alias Vicky. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had last year registered a money laundering case against the firm.
