By Santosh Kumar Sharma: Sanjay Prakash Rai, a businessman arrested in Lucknow for allegedly duping people by claiming close links to top BJP leaders, is also a defaulter of the State Bank of India (SBI). Rai, who also goes by the name Sanjay Sherpuria, and his wife Kanchan Sanjay Prakash Rai’s firm is accused of defrauding the SBI to the tune of RS 350 crore after availing a loan from the bank.
Originally a resident of UP’s Ghazipur, Sanjay Sherpuria was arrested by the UP Special Task Force from Lucknow’s Vibhuti Khand area. He and his aides have been accused of collecting money from people by claiming links to top leaders of the BJP, including the prime minister.

Rai would post photos of himself on social media posing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya, Union minister Anurag Thakur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and several many influential leaders. He claimed to be close to all the big leaders of the central government.

CLAIMED TO MANAGE GAURAV DALMIYA’S INVESTIGATION
Sanjay Rai allegedly took Rs 11 crore to “manage” the Enforcement Directorate’s investigations into a Delhi-based businessman, Gaurav Dalmiya. Rs 11 crore was deposited in two installments by Dalmia from his family trust to the account of Rai’s Youth Rural Entrepreneurship. Rs 5 crore was transferred on January 21 and the remaining Rs 6 crore on January 23.
BJP TICKET ASPIRANT FOR 2024
Sanjay Rai is said to have been aspiring for a BJP ticket from the Ghazipur assembly constituency for the Lok Sabha election next year. Currently, authorities are working on the various chats and transactions found on his phone.
